The Series 51 exam — the Municipal Fund Securities Limited Principal Qualification exam (FP) — measures a candidate’s knowledge of MSRB rules, as well as their ability to interpret and apply them, in areas related to underwriting, trading, and selling of municipal fund securities.

Retake Wait Periods
After the first or second time a candidate fails the Series 51 exam, there is a mandatory 30 day waiting period before they can take the exam again. After the third (and subsequent) fails, the waiting period increases to 6 months. The $255 exam fee applies each time they take the exam.
